About

Who we are:

adelphi leads the V-LED project and plays an overarching coordination role. adelphi is a Berlin-based independent think tank and public policy consultancy on climate, environment and development. Its mission is to improve global governance through research, dialogue and consultation.

Sustainable Energy Africa (SEA) implements the V-LED project in South Africa. SEA is based in Cape Town and promotes equitable, low carbon and clean energy development through research, capacity building and policy engagement.

The Institute for Law and Environmental Governance (ILEG) implements the V-LED project in Kenya. ILEG is a Nairobi-based independent, non-profit public interest law and policy organisation seeking to transform the way governments make decisions that affect the environment and natural resources.

Phase 1 (2015-2018) of the project also included the Philippines and Vietnam with additional partners: OneWorld Sustainable Investments implemented activities in South Africa. UN Habitat Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific implemented the project in the Philippines and Vietnam.

What we do:

Capacity development

The project offers a series of toolkits, training packages and context-specific, on-the-job coaching for subnational authorities in order to drive forward local low-emission development.

Vertical dialogues

A series of thematic vertical climate dialogues creates space for communities, businesses and staff from local, regional and national government levels to discuss and join efforts in order to plan and implement climate change actions collaboratively.

Horizontal learning

Peer-to-peer good practice exchange workshops and networking conferences allow communities, cities and counties to discuss practical solutions, gain inspiration and learn from each other’s achievements and challenges.

Research & global policy action

Four country studies analyse how multilevel climate governance enables local climate action. A series of ‘real practice’ studies documents promising collaborative climate mechanisms and the team shares project insights with the international community by leading workshops in key events.
