The Philippines is highly exposed to negative climate impacts and extreme weather events and thus has made it a top political priority to respond to climate change. Engaging in the global debate and setting ambitious goals for adaptation and mitigation the national government is active to respond to the challenges. The country’s Local government units (LGUs) are key actors to achieve these goals.

LGUs have expressed a need for advisory support on low-emission development issues. Along with our implementing partner, the UN-HABITAT Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific, we support the integration of practical knowledge on climate change mitigation into Local Climate Change Plans (LCCPs) and promote learning and networking between LGUs. Together we will work on options and opportunities to activate the potentials of the LGUs and coordination of efforts to support national goals and create channels to identify and communicate demands and challenges on and between both levels of governance.
