The V-LED project was launched in June 2015 in South Africa under the leadership of the Department of Environmental Affairs (DEA), our main Government counterpart.
South Africa is a regional powerhouse driving growth and taking important steps for low-emission development at the national level. Pioneering cities and municipalities like Cape Town and eThekwini and provinces like Eastern and Western Cape are important actors in their own right leading on climate action in the country and transcending to the global sphere. Large metros and growing secondary cities in the country consume the bulk of the energy and have tremendous potential for rearranging economies and thinking outside the box, shifting climate change drivers. Together, we would like to look for opportunities to transformation development pathways and ways to mobilize people and institutions around local climate action.
